Police searching for Hampton man connected to shooting that killed 17-year-old

HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) — Hampton police are investigating a deadly shooting that killed a 17-year-old male overnight Friday.

Emergency communications received the call for a shooting just after 12:30 a.m.


Police say the male victim was at a convenience store located in the 2600 block of Kecoughtan Road when he was involved in altercation with an unknown subject. This lead to the victim being shot.

Arriving officers located the 17-year-old with gunshot wounds. He was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Dozens of family members and friends were at the scene early Friday morning, devastated by the news. 10 On Your Side has learned the teen recently graduated from high school.

Family members told 10 On Your Side the teen killed in the shooting is Raekwon Peterson. Police have yet to identify the teen.

A candlelight vigil for Raekwon Peterson will be held at 7 p.m. on Saturday in the open lot across the street from the 7-eleven in Powhatan Parkway.

Hampton Police are now asking the public’s help in finding 18-year-old Mekhi Vicente Ivey who officials say is connected to the shooting.

According to reports, Mekhi has active warrants for one count of murder and one count of use of a firearm in commission of a felony. Police say he is considered armed and dangerous.
