HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) – Hampton Police have made an arrest in connection to an early Thursday morning shooting that left one man dead.

James Tubbs, 23, of Hampton, has been arrested in connection to what Hampton Police is classifying as a homicide that took place just before 4:30 a.m. in the 700 block of Hemlock Avenue and charged with first-degree murder. He has also been charged with one count of discharging a firearm in a dwelling and one count of using a firearm in the commission of a felony.

Hampton Police said an investigation showed that the victim, 65-year-old Elliot Tubbs, and James Tubbs were involved in a verbal altercation and after that, James Tubbs retrieved a firearm and fired it toward the victim, striking the man multiple times.

The incident was domestic-related, according to Hampton Police, and it said the victim was the suspect’s father.

According to police, the shooting happened just before 4:30 a.m. Thursday morning in the 700 block of Hemlock Avenue, near West Pembroke Avenue and Childs Avenue.

When officers arrived at the scene, they found a man who had sustained multiple gunshot wounds. Police say the incident is possibly domestic-related.

The victim, identified as 65-year-old Elliot Tubbs, was pronounced dead at the scene. No further information has been released, including possible suspect information.
