HAYES, Va. (WAVY) — One person was shot and another person detained Tuesday in what the Gloucester County Sheriff’s Office is calling a domestic-related shooting.
Gloucester County Sheriff’s deputies were called to the 2300 block of Perrin Creek Road in Hayes at 6:58 p.m. in reference to a domestic-related shooting, and when they arrived, they found a victim with serious injuries, the sheriff’s office said. That person was taken to the hospital.
One suspect was detained, and a gun was recovered. The suspect, 65-year-old Glenn Michael Edwards of Hayes Virginia, was taken into custody and charged with aggravated malicious wounding, attempted second degree murder, use or display a firearm in commission of a felony and discharge a firearm within or at an occupied dwelling.
Neighbor Andrea McDaniel said gunshots are not unusual, since many hunt in the area. But she was surprised when she looked out the window Tuesday night.
“I looked out the window in the bathroom when I was giving my kids a bath, and just a whole fleet of cop cars just lined up down the road,” McDaniel said. “And they were blocking traffic off down the street, and I was like, ‘Oh gosh, something happened.'”
She doesn’t know the neighbors well, but said Edwards seemed very nice the one time she met him. Another neighbor who does know Edwards vouched for his character, saying he was a good man.
The sheriff’s office did not disclose the relationship of the victim to the suspect in order to protect the victim’s identity.
The incident is still under investigation, the sheriff’s office said.
