GLOUCESTER, Va. (WAVY) — Gloucester High School evacuated its students Wednesday morning after a gas leak was detected on the roof.
Around 8:55 a.m., the school sent out a text and email, notifying parents and students while fire and safety crews responded. Just over 30 minutes later, the building was declared safe and everyone was allowed to enter.
“We are incredibly grateful for the calm cooperation of our students and staff, and for the swift, professional response from the fire department and the Gloucester County Sheriff’s Office,” the school’s superintendent said, via email. “Thank you for your continued support as we ensure the safety of our school community.”
Operations have now resumed as normal.
