CAPRON, Va. (WAVY) — A woman’s death is under investigation in Southampton County, according to the Southampton County Sheriff’s Office.

Just after 2 p.m. on Oct. 2, dispatch received a call about an unresponsive female lying on Angelico Road. Upon arrival, deputies found the woman in the roadway about one mile from the intersection of Cedar View Road.

According to the sheriff’s office, the woman had an injury that appeared to be consistent with a gunshot wound. Medics pronounced her dead at the scene.

The Tidewater Office of the Chief Medical Examiner was able to identify the woman, however authorities have not released her name.
