SOUTHAMPTON COUNTY, Va. (WAVY) — New speed cameras are coming to the Capron Elementary school zone on Southampton Parkway.
The Southampton County Sheriff’s Office has partnered with Blue Line Solutions to implement the ASE LIDAR cameras to the school zone.
According to the sheriff’s office, the speed cameras will be operational during the mornings and afternoons of each school day.
The speed limit in this area while the school zone lights are activated is 35 mph. Drivers caught speeding in the school zone will be issued warnings from Sept. 3 to Oct. 2.
On Oct. 3, when the enforcement was supposed to begin, Southampton County released a statement saying unforeseen technical issues delayed the start of the enforcement.
It is currently unclear when the enforcement will begin.
The purpose of the new cameras is to encourage safe driving habits and ensure the safety of the students and staff, according to the sheriff’s office.
