Former Virginia Beach Farm Fresh could have indoor go-karts, laser tag

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — A vacant former Farm Fresh in Virginia Beach could get a fresh life as an indoor go-kart and laser tag park.

The proposed facility at 2058 S. Independence Blvd., next to the Target and just down the road from Sentara Princess Anne Hospital, is from the same people that ran the old go kart place next to Lynnhaven Mall.

That location from Hussain Surani and American Indoor Karting, LLC closed permanently in the height of the coronavirus pandemic. American Indoor also had a similar location in Richmond that closed in the fall of 2020.

The new proposal from Surani, the Safari Fun Park, calls for using all 60,000 square feet of the former grocery store, one of the 20-plus stores from the beloved regional chain that closed starting in 2018. Just two locations under the Farm Fresh name remain locally.

Go-karts and laser tag are in the works, as well as a ropes course, arcade and more. The park would also run from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 8 a.m. to midnight on Friday and Saturday.

The Virginia Beach Planning Commission voted 11-0 to recommend approval for the project, which could get the green light from Virginia Beach City Council on July 9.
