NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — A new fishing pier could be coming to Norfolk’s Lafayette River, right next to the Granby Street Bridge.

The project is still in the design phase, but there is a rendering of what it would look like once completed. Plans currently call for the pier, which could be wood or composite, to be built in two phases, eventually wrapping around and connecting in front of proposed parking (plans currently call for 10 spaces) at the site.

Plans also call for illuminated walkways with Americans with Disabilities Act access.

The project at this time is expected to cost about $1.28 million, the city says, but the timetable for potential approval and construction is still to be determined.

The city has planned a community meeting on Tuesday, July 9 at the Norview Community Center on Sewells Point Road to get more feedback on the project before moving forward. That meeting starts at 6 p.m.
