First of six vagrant vessels removed from VB creek

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — Virginia Beach Police were on London Bridge Creek as a contractor started pulling the first of six vessels out of the creek.

Matt Gross, who has been camped out on the water, was still there, and Tuesday, he was moving all his belongings off one boat, and putting them on another.

Gross will be allowed to live on the other vessel, for now, until the city figures out how to handle the situation.

Neighbors said they are pleased with the progress.

“I was just told by the man pulling the boats out [that] all the boats are going to be removed except for the vagrant person living on there who has refused to move,” said neighbor Rich Madden. “Once the lot cleared out, people coming in with the drugs has lessened. We approached them personally, which we shouldn’t have to do, but we do.”

Wednesday, State Sen. Bill DeSteph will hold a town hall meeting to discuss the derelict vessel and homeless issue in Virginia Beach. The meeting is at 5:30 p.m. at London Bridge Baptist Church.
