UPDATE (7/11/23) – Virginia Beach Fire Department says the fire has been marked as undetermined while they continue to investigate.
VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — Three people are displaced following a two-alarm fire at a home in Virginia Beach.
Virginia Beach firefighters responded to a 2-alarm fire around 1 a.m. in the 2900 block of Sand Bend Road.
Officials say 45 firefighters were called to the 3-story home, which was engulfed in flames and smoke. Three adults were displaced as a result of the fire and officials say two people have minor injuries after being rescued from the balcony.
The fire was marked under control at 2:19 a.m. but officials say the fire was not marked out until 5:21 a.m.
A neighbor told 10 On Your Side that one person jumped from the third floor of the home, but WAVY is working to confirm this information.
A witness to the fire told 10 On Your Side’s KaMaria Braye that he woke up and saw the home engulfed in flames.
“I remember being woke about 1:15, 1:30 saying there’s a fire and coming outside and seeing the blaze that I’ve never ever seen,” James Daniel said. “Its hard to process it. You know, when you talk about life, you say everybody got out safe that’s the main thing. Everything else can be replaced, but just the amount of flames and embers coming from it was like something from the movies.”
According to the VB Real Estate Assessor and Treasurer’s office, the home was built in 2003 and was assessed by Virginia Beach at $1.6 million.
The Red Cross is assisting those who were displaced as a result of the fire.
