SUSSEX COUNTY, Va. (WAVY) – A single-vehicle crash in Sussex County early Monday morning resulted in a fatality.
Virginia State Police were called to the scene on Route 40, near Lobb Shop Road, around 4:15 a.m. on July 15.
The investigation determined a 2005 Cadillac Escalade was traveling eastbound on Route 40, when it ran off the road, overturned several times, and struck a tree.
34-year-old Jarrell R. Thomas, of Waverly, was driving the vehicle, state police said. He died at the scene.
A female passenger was taken to VCU Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.
The crash remains under investigation.
