Doorbell footage captures sounds of gunshots in Chesapeake shooting

CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) — The Sea Palling Lane community is calling Friday night’s deadly shooting rare.

The Chesapeake Police Department was called to Sea Palling Lane just before 8 p.m. Friday. When officers arrived at the home, they found a man dead. He was later identified as 41-year-old Christopher Heck.


Neighbors in the area told 10 On your side the neighborhood is usually quiet.

“This is a family neighborhood,” Rachel Thomas said. “Super quiet. It’s middle class America here. You just go to work. Mind your business. Enjoy your neighbors. That’s it.”

After an investigation, Heck’s wife, Heather Heck, was arrested and charged with use of a firearm in commission of a felony and second degree homicide. Police said this was a domestic incident.

Thomas believes this incident may have rattled the community, but it will bring everyone closer.

“The type of neighborhood this is, I think it’s just going to draw us closer as neighbors, because immediately everyone came out to console everyone or just to make sure like what in the world is going on?” Thomas said. “So it’s good people out here and I think it will just draw us closer.”
