NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — In the Gospel of John, Jesus said, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.”
Tuesday, the Christian Broadcasting Company put those words into action through its annual Thanksgiving feeding Tuesday in Norfolk. Along with food, there was fellowship, music, games, fun — and plenty of smiles.
“We expected to feed about 200 today,” said Dr. Katrina Chase, CBC chief executive officer. “Christian Broadcasting, along with Synergy Health Systems and Friendship Church of Norfolk, we decided to come together and feed.”
They’ve been doing this for more than 20 years.
“We don’t just do it for the holiday,” she said. “What we’re doing is giving back to the community, helping everybody, because if we believe, if we eat, everybody ought to eat.
“And we have so much to be thankful of, and even though they may be homeless, we have so much to be thankful for. You’re not locked up behind prison bars, you’re not in a hospital, you’re not six feet under, so there’s hope for tomorrow, that we can all do better. And that’s what we’re here to do, just encourage everyone to do better and let them know they have a friend, and they’re not by themselves.”
