Man killed in Chesapeake interstate shooting identified

UPDATE: The victim was not previously identified due to it being an active investigation, but WAVY obtained court records which reveal the victim was 29-year-old Wesley Allen Robinson.

CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) — Virginia State Police are investigating a deadly interstate shooting that happened Friday, July 28, in Chesapeake.

According to VSP, Chesapeake police responded to the shooting around 9:50 a.m. on July 28, on the entrance ramp to I-464 north from Route 17 north.

Police say the occupant(s) of a white sedan opened fire on a white BMW SUV. The driver of the BMW was shot multiple times and died at the scene. Court records state investigators found 11 bullet holes in the victim’s vehicle, all concentrated on the driver.

The victim was identified as 29-year-old Wesley Allen Robinson from Chesapeake, according to court documents. State Police arrived on scene to find the driver slumped over in the front seat after hitting the guardrail.

Court records say the investigation indicates the person who opened fire may have known Robinson, based on the “targeted nature of the shooting.”
