Docs: Suspects stole almost $40,000 of Apple products from Walmart

CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) — Three men allegedly stole tens of thousands of dollars worth of Apple products from a Chesapeake Walmart earlier this month.

According to a search warrant obtained by 10 On Your Side, the crime happened on the night of Jan. 4 at the Walmart on Grassfield Parkway.

The document states that three Black men walked into the store around 10:40 p.m. One man distracted a sales associate, while the two others used a prying device to get into two caged lockers, which held a large amount of Apple products.

The two men grabbed more than $38,000 worth of Apple products.

The court documents say 10 minutes after they committed the crime, all three suspects escaped through the employee break room and out of the back of the store.

According to the search warrant, a Chesapeake deputy who was working part-time saw the three men get into a dark pickup truck and speed off.

This has shocked Chesapeake residents like Tim Pickett, who said as far as he’s aware, nothing like this had ever happened before at that store.

“The people that walked in and stole this amount of money out of Apple products, I don’t understand how that was — people watching them do that and how that was allowed,” Pickett said. “And then watching the segment on WAVY 10 last night, I saw they went out the employees’ entrance. So I was stunned for, like, how that happens in our neighborhood.”

10 On Your Side reached out to Walmart for comment and to obtain surveillance video of the crime. A representative responded, “We will not participate in this story and don’t provide video from inside our stores.”
