CPD: Man seriously hurt after shooting on Coveside Ln.

CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) — A man was seriously hurt after a shooting on Coveside Lane Sunday night, according to police.

Officers were dispatched to the 100 block of Coveside Lane around 10:40 p.m. for reports of a shooting. When officers arrived on scene, they found a man suffering from a life-threatening gunshot wound.

Police said the victim was transferred to a local hospital for treatment.

A WAVY-TV 10 viewer sent an image of the scene, showing officers using flashlights to search the area.

“I was actually laying in bed watching Live PD, which is bizarre, and I heard six pops and I knew it was shots, not on the TV, so I ran out on the balcony and I heard a man screaming,” said nearby resident Tiffanie Goodman.

According to Chesapeake Police, the shooting happened in the parking lot of the Hideaway at Greenbrier Apartments on Coveside Lane. Residents recalled the frightening scene.

“You can hear the sirens and police cars responding,” one resident said. “It’s something that shakes you up.”

Before first responders arrived, Goodman rushed to the man’s aid.

“Pretty traumatic honestly, because I couldn’t help him, and he kept saying, ‘I couldn’t breathe,’ so I just told him to hold my hand,” Goodman said.

Several cars in the parking lot were impacted by the gunfire. Neighbors now fear for their safety, as they say there was just a homicide in this same area back in June.

“It’s something that shouldn’t have happened, and you don’t expect it,” a resident said. “You’d like to have a quiet neighborhood and enjoy where you live.”

Police said there are no suspects at this time, but these residents hope that changes. The incident remains under investigation, and no additional information has been released.

“Don’t be a coward, because I watched from my balcony whoever did it, or whoever might’ve been involved, run away, so no matter what it was about, do the right thing,” Goodman said.
