CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) — Chesapeake police said a woman who was reported missing Monday morning was found deceased in a wooded area.

The body of 61-year-old Laura Miles was found late Monday afternoon in a wooded area in the 4600 block of Taylor Road.

Detectives said earlier Monday that they believed her disappearance was suspicious after her vehicle was located near the intersection of Bangor Drive and Meadows Way, an area she was not reportedly known to frequent.

Detectives are treating the investigation as a homicide.

Police told WAVY’s Geena Arevalo there were noticeable signs of trauma on her body.

They also said there was evidence in her vehicle and odd communication between her and known persons that led them to believe her disappearance was suspicious.

Police haven’t shared many details in the case, but said Miles was reported missing Monday morning.

Police said there is no suspect description as Monday night, but they’re investigating whether there are any surveillance cameras in the area.

A spokesman said Miles drove a black Ford pickup truck and encouraged anyone who may have seen her or her vehicle to let police know.
