NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) – A murder charge against a Newport News man was dropped this week.

Lakavious Lamont Charity was charged with second-degree murder and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony in relation to the October 15 shooting and death of Quandrell Williams. WAVY first reported that protocols were ignored in the case, and two Newport News firefighters were later fired for failing to provide adequate care to Williams.

Court paperwork shows that a judge signed off on a motion to strike both of the charges against Charity on June 12.
