Bunky the dog from Joel Bieber ads dies

NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — One of the most famous and beloved dogs in Virginia has crossed the rainbow bridge.

Bunky, the 13-year-old rescue dog and star of the Joel Bieber Firm’s advertisements, died last week, the firm announced on Wednesday.

“It is with heavy hearts that The Joel Bieber Firm announces the passing of Bunky, our cherished canine coworker and beloved four-footed friend,” the firm wrote on Facebook. “His time at the Firm left an everlasting mark; not just on our team, but to those who knew and loved him through our commercials, billboards, and social media.”

Bunky’s passing came just two weeks after he was named the official dog of Richmond’s 804 Day. The tiny dog kicked off the event with a big smile.

The half Chihuahua and half Maltese rescue was adopted back in December 2018 from Richmond’s For the Love of Poodles, aka FLOP, and became a staple at the firm, starring in ads when he wasn’t sleeping or trotting around the building looking for lunch.

And though he wasn’t Bieber’s dog, the two were best friends.

“Everyone likes to think he’s Bunky Bieber but he’s actually my dog … they have a very sweet relationship,” said Bunky’s owner Lindsay Kelley. “Bunky will go and lay down in his office and listen to him talk on the phone. It’s very sweet. They’re best, best buddies.”

“Bunky lived a full and happy life filled with love from his mom Lindsay, her family, the Firm, and his thousands of fans. Thank you all for loving him as much as we do.”
