NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — A homeless man has died after a Norfolk officer shot him in the 100 block of E Little Creek Road, police confirmed Thursday evening.
According to 10 On Your Side’s Michelle Wolf, police said a man was checking vehicle door handles Thursday afternoon in a Wards Corner shopping center parking lot when a police officer and security guard confronted him. After the man pulled out a knife and charged at them, the police and security officer discharged their weapons and shot him.
The call came in around 1:40 p.m.

The man, identified as Gary S. Solomon, 31, of Norfolk, was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. He died of his injuries at the hospital, Norfolk Police said. He was confirmed by police to be homeless. No officers were injured, according to State Police, which is investigating the shooting.
The officer involved in the incident will remain on administrative duty pending the outcome of the investigation, Norfolk Police said.
Police said this remains an active investigation, and they ask anyone with information about this shooting to submit a tip through the P3Tips mobile app.
