Blog: A nice Fall weekend

This morning some folks woke up to a little patchy frost in our region. Most temps were in the 40s, and there were a couple of 50s near the shore. However, a few inland locations did make it down into the mid 30s for a brief time.

Low Temps This Morning

The sun came up, and it was shining brightly this morning.

The big area of low pressure that was a little offshore has now moved farther out to sea. A giant area of high pressure is building in from the west.

Regional Weather Map

We are looking at a great weekend! We’ll have lots of sunshine today through Sunday. There will still be a bit of a breeze out of the north today. It will run at 5-15mph with a few higher gusts. That will cap the high temps at mid-upper 60s this afternoon.

Forecast Temps Today

It will be super dry with dew points in the 30s and 40s.

Tonight we’ll have clear skies and chilly temps. Lows will be in the 40s mostly. There will be a couple of 50s near the shore. There will probably be a few more mid-upper 30s in the far inland spots.

Tonight’s Forecast

We’ll warm up just a bit more tomorrow. High temps will be in the upper 60s with a few 70s inland/south. Then we’ll be in the low 70s Sunday.

Weekend Forecast

We’ll have a lot of sunshine with highs in the 70s through the middle of next week.

One speed bump in the nice weekend forecast is going to be some minor tidal flooding. It should be low-end minor, but it will impact several areas near the shore. This will be over the next couple of days.

Tide Forecast

This is mainly from the north breeze and a full moon. However, the ocean is also churned up again from the offshore low.

Waves are running up to about 8 ft along the Outer Banks.

The waves should decrease a little by tomorrow. The tides should go back to normal by Sunday.

The tropics aren’t super busy, but there are 2 disturbances near the Caribbean basin.

Tropical Basin

The one that we’ve had our eye on for days now only has a low chance of development. It is near the Lesser Antilles moving west. It may bring some heavy rain to Puerto Rico. The other feature is near central America. It has a medium chance of formation as it drifts west. However, it has a small window to form before it moves over land. Neither of these systems will affect the United States.

Finally, the Fall colors around here are just starting to pop up, but they will ramp up with the recent chilly temps. There are some good colors to our north and over the Appalachians.

Fall Colors

Keep in mind that they are still recovering over parts of western Virginia and western North Carolina. So check ahead if you try to travel closer to that region.
