ACCOMACK, Va. (WAVY) – Virginia State Police are investigating a fatal crash involving a pedestrian in the Oak Hall section of Accomack County Monday night.
According to officials, just before 10 p.m., officers were dispatched to Route 13 just south of the Route 175 intersection for reports of a fatal crash.
An investigation revealed the driver of a 2004 Toyota Prius was heading northbound through a controlled intersection when the vehicle struck a pedestrian walking in the left lane.
The pedestrian, later identified as 53-year-old Thomas Wharton, died upon impact, police said. The driver of the Prius was transferred to a Salisbury Regional Hospital to be treated for non life-threatening injuries.
Police continue to investigate the cause of the crash and no charges have been filed.
