ACCOMACK COUNTY, Va. (WAVY) — Two people have died following a two-vehicle crash on Lankford Highway Tuesday in the Nelsonia area of Accomack County on the Eastern Shore, Virginia State Police said.
The crash took place around 4:16 p.m. at 16239 Lankford Highway, also known as U.S. Route 13. Both north and southbound lanes of Route 13 were closed during the crash investigation.
According to authorities, 69-year-old Augusto Aguilar of Tampa, Florida was in a 2021 Mazda CX30 when he crossed over from the northbound lane on Route 13 to the southbound lane and struck a 2021 Freightliner box truck head-on.
Aguilar was transported to Riverside Shore Memorial Hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries. Aguilar’s wife, Maria Aguilar, was in the passenger seat at the time of the impact and sustained non life-threatening injuries. Aguilar’s daughter, 17-year-old Allyssa Aguilar, died upon impact.
The driver of the Freightliner, 63-year-old Ervin Mizriky, was transported to Riverside Shore Memorial Hospital and suffered serious non life-threatening injuries.
The crash reconstruction team responded to the scene. State Police said they would provide more crash details once they are available.
No charges have been placed at this time.
