23-year-old motorcyclist dies after crash in Hampton

HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) — A 23-year-old man has died after a motorcycle crash in Hampton, police said. He was identified as Dakota Cleland.

The crash occurred on the entrance ramp to westbound I-64 from route 258/Mercury Boulevard around 12:20 a.m. Monday.

The preliminary investigation revealed the 23-year-old driver of a 2007 Kawasaki motorcycle was driving on the exit flyover, ran off the roadway and hit the jersey wall.

Upon striking the jersey wall, the driver was ejected and suffered life-threatening injuries. Troopers attempted life-saving measures, but the man died at the scene.
