16-year-old boy charged in connection to James City Co. shooting

JAMES CITY COUNTY, Va. (WAVY) — A 16-year-old boy was charged in connection to a shooting at Country Village on Saturday, Oct. 19.

At approximately 1:40 p.m., James City County Police responded to a report of a shooting in the 100 block of Gray Gables Drive.


The shooting was preceded by a verbal altercation between a group of four juveniles and one man, according to police. One individual from the group of four juveniles brandished a handgun and fired multiple rounds in the direction of the adult.

No injuries were reported.

Upon arrival to the scene, officers initiated a search for the involved juveniles. Assisted by a York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office K-9, officers identified and located all involved individuals by the evening. The firearm has yet to be recovered, however.

The 16-year-old suspect, who is alleged to have fired the weapon, was detained in the vicinity of the shooting and questioned by detectives.

He has been charged with Reckless Handling of a Firearm, Use of a Firearm in Commission of a Felony, Underage Possession of a Firearm and Shooting into an Occupied Dwelling.

The juvenile was transported to the Merrimac Juvenile Detention Center.
