HAMPTON ROADS, Va. (WAVY) – Organizers of several major scheduled events across the Hampton Roads area have announced cancellations or a postponement because of coronavirus concerns. The following list will continue to be updated with any additional announcements.

If you planned to attend an upcoming event not listed below, check their website or contact them to find out the latest information.

Virginia

Chesapeake

  • National Night Out with Chesapeake Police has been postponed from its Aug. 4, 2020 date to Oct. 6, 2020.
  • Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC) Mid-Atlantic has postponed its scheduled March 15 Career Fair at the Chesapeake Conference Center as a precaution due to the coronavirus outbreak. No new date has been set. The command will instead continue to actively recruit via electronic channels.
  • The Chesapeake Jubilee and Shrimp Fest scheduled for May 14-17, 2020 has been canceled. The popular event will return in May 2021.
  • The recurring Chesapeake Planetarium presents “Stars of Spring” event is canceled
  • Bulk waste collection of tree and yard debris, construction debris, and fence material is suspended until further notice
  • All Chesapeake Public Library branches are closed until further notice.
  • All Community Centers and park amenities (Skate Park at Chesapeake City Park, all City Dog Parks, all City Outdoor Courts, Park Restrooms, all City Playgrounds) are closed to the public until further notice. Open space and trails in parks will remain open but social distancing MUST be maintained. 

Hampton

Isle of Wight

  • Fall Truck & Tractor pull on September 12, Seafood Fest on September 16, and the 27th annual County Fair scheduled for September 17-20 have all been canceled.

Newport News

  • The Mariners’ Museum and Park is closed until further notice. This includes Noland Trail. https://www.marinersmuseum.org/
  • The Peninsula Fine Arts Center is currently closed. Check their website for updates.
  • All city offices, facilities and buildings are closed to the public. This includes city hall, offices at city center, Treasurer’s Office, Commissioner of the Revenue’s Office, Voter Registrar’s Office, Visitor Center, public libraries, recreation centers, and senior centers.
  • All city sponsored events, programs, classes and activities scheduled during this time are canceled. 
  • Newport News Juvenile Services has suspended in-person visitation.
  • Parks remain open at this time; however park restrooms and picnic areas are closed.
  • All playgrounds are closed and all recreation centers are closed.
  • The golf course is open.
  • Huntington Park Beach is closed to swimming and sunbathing.

Norfolk

  • Norfolk Harborfest and other events by Norfolk Festevents are canceled or postponed.
  • The Norfolk Scope office will be closed, although staff will be working remotely. Any questions can be directed to info@norfolkadmirals.com.
  • The Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral announced that the annual Norfolk Greek Festival will be postponed from May until September this year to prevent the spread of COVID-19 . The new festival dates are Sept. 17 through Sept. 20.
  • The 9th annual Pride Block Party at Scope Arena, in conjunction with the 32nd annual Hampton Roads Pride Fest scheduled for June 19, 2020 is postponed. A new date has not been announced.
  • The Virginia International Tattoo, hosted by the Virginia Arts Festival, has been canceled. All performances for the annual tattoo week are canceled.
  • Sesame Street Live! Make Your Magic scheduled for April 10-11 at the Chartway Arena in Norfolk was canceled. Tickets purchased through the venue’s authorized channels will be refunded automatically. Cash purchasers can bring their tickets to the Chartway Arena Box Office M-F from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m.- 2 p.m. to claim a refund.
  • The Push Comedy Theater is temporarily closed. This closing will affect all shows, classes and rehearsals at the Push Comedy Theater and Push Comedy Theater Training Center.
  • The Harlem Globetrotters event scheduled at Chartway Arena on March 14 has been postponed. Organizers said a rescheduled date will be announced soon. If you have tickets for the event, hold onto them; you’ll be able to use them on the rescheduled date.
  • The Norfolk Tides have closed their front office, box office and team store as of Monday.
  • The Virginia Arts Festival has postponed all events through at least May 4.
  • 14th Annual Spring Town Point Virginia Wine Festival has been postponed to a date not yet announced.
  • Chip & Sip: A Waterfront Happy Hour Golf Series has been postponed to a date not yet announced.
  • TowneBank Fountain Park Opening May dates have been canceled: will open June 1
  • Big Bands on the Bay Concert Series at Ocean View Beach Park: May 24 and 31 dates are postponed to a date not yet announced.
  • Shamrocks and Shenanigans with Pauly D scheduled for March 13 at Waterside has been postponed. Tickets can be used at the rescheduled date. Refunds will be honored by contacting Eventbrite.
  • Jazz musician Gregg Karakus canceled his appearance at the Historic Attucks Theater. A new performance date will be announced and previously purchased tickets will be honored.
  • The Together Live in Norfolk! traveling event scheduled to come to the Attacks Theater on April 25 has been canceled.
  • Naval Station Norfolk is suspending all scheduled public bus tours of the base, effective March 14.
  • The NorVa has canceled all scheduled shows and events until the government says it is safe for the venue to reopen. The NorVa will attempt to reschedule canceled acts. If an act cannot be rescheduled, ticket holders will be refunded.
  • The Virginia Zoo is closed, but is offering some virtual experiences. Click here for details.
  • The CHKD RunWalk for kids has been postponed. It was scheduled for April 11 at the Waterside District in Norfolk. A new date has not been selected yet.
  • Friends of Festevents Peter G. Decker, Jr. Golf Tournament (postponed, new date TBD)
  • Friends of Festevents Gala (postponed, new date TBD)
  • Chip & Sip Happy Hour Golf Experience (May 6 date postponed, new date TBD)
  • Harborfest Skippers Meeting (canceled, participants will be contacted directly by staff)

Portsmouth

Suffolk

  • The Bike-In movie scheduled for Saturday, May 9 at Bennett’s Creek Park is canceled.
  • The annual Suffolk Mud Jam and Classic Cruise-in scheduled for April 4 was canceled. Keep up to date on events and activities by visiting SuffolkPeanutFest.com.
  • Nansemond River High School’s “Gowns for Crowns Prom Dress Giveaway” has been postponed. The event was scheduled for March 28. A new date has not been selected yet.
  • The 2020 Suffolk Peanut Fest originally slated for October 8 to 11 has been canceled.

Virginia Beach

  • The Virginia Beach’s Neptune Festival, scheduled for September 25-27, has been canceled for the first time in its 47-year history.
  • The Atlantic Coast Kite Festival scheduled for May 2 and 3 is canceled. The event will return later in the 2020 season, but officials have not yet released a date.
  • Salute To Summer, originally scheduled for May 22-24, 2020 at 17th Street Park, 24th Street Park and 31st Street Park, has been canceled. Music fans can look forward to the popular event’s return in 2021.
  • All City of Virginia Beach events have been canceled through June 10. This includes events permitted by the Special Events & Film Office and the Department of Parks & Recreation.
  • Annual Tidewater Veterans Memorial Day Ceremony scheduled for May 25, 2020 is canceled.
  • Parks & Recreation has canceled spring sports leagues and all events and programs through June 10, 2020.
  • Pungo Offroad Monsters On The Beach, scheduled for May 15-17 on the Beach and Boardwalk from 4th Street through 8th Street, has been canceled due to Commonwealth of Virginia Governor Executive Order 53 and 55 directing individuals to stay at home in response to COVID-19. Monster Truck enthusiasts can look forward to the popular event’s return in 2021.
  • The Farmers Market has canceled the Strawberry Jamboree on May 16, 2020, as well as all Friday Night Hoedowns during May 2020 and on June 5.
  • The 2020 Something In the Water Festival is canceled. The festival will take place between April 23 and April 25, 2021. Tickets purchased for the 2020 festival will be honored for next year’s event.
  • The Virginia Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA) Boardwalk Art Show presented by PNC Bank was rescheduled from the weekend of June 19-21 to October 23-25 given the continuing COVID-19 pandemic. On August 14, organizers announced the decision to cancel the event. Details on the 2021 show will be released in the coming months.
  • The 12th Annual She-Crab Soup Classic has been canceled. The event was scheduled for April 18. It will return in 2021.
  • The 2nd annual Pride at the Beach scheduled for June 21, 2020 at the Virginia Beach Oceanfront, in conjunction with the 32nd annual Hampton Roads Pride Fest is postponed. A new date has not been announced.
  • The Beach Music Cruise-In has been canceled. It was scheduled for May 8 through May 10.

Williamsburg

  • Busch Gardens Williamsburg is temporarily closed in accordance to state and federal guidance. Click here for more information.
  • Jamestown Settlement and the American Revolution Museum at Yorktown is currently closed.
  • The 2020 Antiques Roadshow in Williamsburg has been postponed. It was originally scheduled for April 28.

State-wide

  • The Virginia High School League Basketball Tournament games were cancelled for March 13 and March 14.
  • Kings Dominion in its last update said it will postpone its park opening until mid-May. Get updates here.
  • Typically, the annual National Night Out in Virginia culminates on the first Tuesday in August. But, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, event organizers are strongly recommending that all National Night Out 2020 areas celebrate on October 6, the first Tuesday in October. Some Hampton Roads cities have already announced the October date change.

North Carolina

State wide

  • A statewide Stay at Home Order is in effect and directs people to stay at home except to visit essential businesses, exercise or help a family member or friend. For a full list of essential businesses, please see the Executive Order 121. Gatherings of more than 10 people are banned and everyone should stay at least six feet apart.
  • K-12 public schools statewide are currently closed  until May 15.
  • Utilities are prohibited from disconnecting people who are unable to pay during the COVID-19 pandemic
