CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) — It’s October, which means it’s breast cancer awareness month and time for Chesapeake Regional Health Foundation’s Bra-ha-ha.

10 On Your Side’s Stephanie Hudson once again had the honor and daunting task of judging about 150 bras designed to inspire early detection and celebrate survivorship.

This year’s entries include “Stay on Track,” which features a moving train, “Don’t be a Nauti Girl,” “Upscale Sea Cups” and “Salacia-Divinity of the Sea,” which embrace this year’s nautical theme, among many more unique and creative designs.

The winners will be announced at the annual Awards Show and Auction:

  • Friday, Oct. 4, 6-9 p.m.
  • Location: Delta Hotels by Marriott – Chesapeake
  • Address: 725 Woodlake Drive, Chesapeake

Money raised goes to provide uninsured and underinsured women get free mammograms and improve breast cancer detection in our community.

“One of the things that is going to help us with this year is a machine that can help detect lymphedema before it’s clinically apparent, so that we can treat it at basically, a subclinical stage,” said Chesapeake Regional Breast Health Navigator Meg Shrader said, “so that we can get these women in so they don’t have to hopefully deal with the chronic lymphedema.”

About one in five women will get lymphedema of the arm or breast after cancer treatments. It happens when fluid does not drain properly and causes swelling that can cause tingling, numbness and difficulty moving.
