Hampton assisted living owner accused of stealing thousands from elderly man

HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) — A Hampton assisted living owner is accused of stealing thousands of dollars from a 91-year-old patient.

71-year-old Patricia Mainor, the owner of Tender Care Adult Residence on Todds Lane, was indicted by a grand jury on Tuesday.

“I was just livid,” said Pam Pegram, the victim’s daughter. “I didn’t think another human can treat someone like that.”

For seven months, Pegram’s father lived in home. He moved in January.

In July, Pegram realized something wasn’t right. When she checked her 91-year-old dad’s bank accounts she noticed he was missing thousands of dollars.

“I was just blown away. That’s when I knew that I had to step in and get him out of that situation,” Pegram added.

Police investigated and arrested Mainor.  Detectives say Mainor was having the victim write her checks.

“Money was just disappearing way too fast what they seemed to be normal,” said Hampton Police Sergeant Matt Bond.

“I think she manipulated him,” Pegram added. “Yes he signed the checks, but I think he had no idea.”

Mainor is accused of taking more than $11,000. She has been charged with seven counts of taking money under false pretense.

10 On Your Side stopped by the home to get Mainor’s side of the story, but had no luck

The victim is now staying at a facility near his family in Richmond.

“As far as I’m concerned, justice for my father was when I moved him out of there,” Pegram said.
