CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) — It was a celebration of life, a celebration of a father, husband, son as 30-year-old Norfolk Police officer Seth Amos was laid to rest Friday in Chesapeake.
Amos had battled an unknown illness for a little over a month, one that left doctors without many answers.
Many guests stood at the podium to share their stories of Amos during the two-hour celebration. Amos shared a story too.
A song Amos had written four years ago for a fallen officer was played during the ceremony. The lyrics: ‘I want you to know that I’m ready. I’m ready and I love you.’
Amos comes from a family of Norfolk Police officers. They say he was ready to meet the Lord when he passed a week ago.
“The guy fought as hard as he could,” said Captain David Huffman of the Norfolk Police Department. “Nobody ever said a bad word about this guy.”
Huffman, along with the dozens of officers in attendance, understood how hard he fought to stay alive for his wife and two little boys. They also promised to support the family in the midst of such great loss.
“That’s what law enforcement does, we don’t forget you, this is brotherhood, family, yes,” said Huffman.
Amos’s fight with the mystery illness began when he started to have trouble breathing. He took many trips to various hospitals, unable to find an answer to the pain he felt in his lungs.
Amos took his last breath on his father’s birthday. “He has fought an epic fight and finished his race. Seth has crossed the finish line and has made it to his forever home,” Seth’s dad, Chris, posted on his Facebook.
