SUFFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — The former chief of a now-defunct volunteer fire department in Suffolk faces multiple felony embezzlement charges.
Charles Paul Riehle, 40, of Suffolk, was indicted on seven felony counts of embezzlement by officers, etc. of public funds in connection to his time at the Holland Volunteer Fire Company. He was arrested on July 9, according to Suffolk officials.
The Suffolk Police Department started looking into the alleged embezzlement after receiving a complaint about the misuse of funds at the department.
Suffolk officials say each of the felony counts were in excess of $200 and Riehle was not an employee with the City of Suffolk.
Officials say they couldn’t comment on the case, citing Riehle’s pending court case.
