KELLER, Va. (WAVY) – The Accomack County Sheriff’s Office is looking for the people who shot into a car early Sunday morning, leaving one man dead and another injured.
Deputies say the shooting happened just after 4 a.m. in the Keller area of the county. The sheriff’s office originally reported the shooting was “in the Exmore area.”
On Sunday morning, 21-year-old Hasaan Burton’s friends and family got an unexpected call telling them he was shot.
“It’s hard,” said Burton’s best friend, Marquel Fitchett. “It’s hard on me, because that’s my brother. That’s my child friend.”
Burton died minutes later. His family believes he was at a party in Maryland when there was an argument. The suspects followed Burton and his friends back into Virginia, pulled alongside their car and opened fire.
“It’s been tough, because we were all just here Saturday night for a birthday party,” added Burton’s cousin Jamal Stratton. “We were in this same exact spot a few hours before it happened.”
The Accomack County Sheriff’s Office says Burton and another victim were driven into Exmore, where they were met by rescue crews.
“He didn’t deserve this man,” Stratton added. “He didn’t deserve to go away like that.”
Family says after graduating from Landstown High in Virginia Beach, Burton took a job a Perdue. He was working the night shift.
“I want to know who shot my brother,” Fitchett asked. “That’s all I want to know.”
The sheriff’s office says the other victim is going to be OK, though hasn’t at this point been willing to cooperate with investigators.
