Family of inmate who died at HRRJ says she was in good health

PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) — 10 On Your Side is learning more about the inmate who died over the weekend at the Hampton Roads Regional Jail.

Officials say 32-year-old Regina Marie Honeycutt suffered a medical emergency Saturday evening. She died just before 11 a.m. on Sunday.

Honeycutt’s family says the last time they saw her she was healthy, and excited to meet her new baby niece.

Family members say she had no medical conditions, so when they received a call from the hospital saying she was in critical condition, they were surprised.  Her father was reportedly able to make it to the hospital before she passed away, although Honeycutt was unresponsive.

Honeycutt was serving a three year sentence for a probation violation. She was on probation for a malicious wounding felony conviction from 2009. She was just moved to the Hampton Roads Regional Jail on Friday. Family members say they still have a lot of questions that haven’t been answered.

10 On Your Side reached out to jail officials and the medical examiners office, but both were out for the holiday.
