GLOUCESTER, VA (WAVY) — A 14-year-old boy continues to recover at the hospital after being shot multiple times in a rural park in Gloucester.
The teen, identified as “Gage” by family and a Facebook page started to support his recovery, was shot on July 17, at Beaverdam Park.
“You never think it’s going to happen to you, especially in this little town,” his grandmother said. “It’s been devastating.”
Gage’s grandmother didn’t wish to be identified as she said the family had received “threats” following the shooting advising them to “not snitch” and “watch their back.”
“Gage still has a long way to go,” his grandmother said. “But we will be here for him. He’s a very strong young man, and has a really strong drive.”
Two juveniles were arrested not long after the shooting, and charged with malicious wounding, possession of a firearm while under the age of 18 and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.
At the time of publishing, the Gloucester’s Commonwealths’ Attorney’s office had not yet returned 10 On Your Sides inquiry into the status of the case.
“We are going to push for them to be charged as adults,” the grandmother said. “He was shot 14 times. He was shot in the lower torso, upper torso, shot in the back. He lifted up his arm to stop a bullet from going to his head and it shattered his arm.”
A GoFundMe page has been started to help the family with living accommodations while Gage remains at the hospital in Norfolk.
The grandmother also thanks the community for their constant support of her family.
