Drone 10 captures US built locomotives being loaded onto ship in Norfolk, bound for Egypt

NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) – Did you know in Norfolk, trains can fly?

Over the next three days, 135 ton diesel locomotives will do just that, as they are loaded onto a ship for their trip to Egypt.

Drone 10 was pier side Tuesday as subcontractors for Fairwinds Landing began loading the 20 locomotives one-by-one.

The ES30ACi Evolution Series Locomotives, which were built by a Pennsylvania based Wabtec, were ordered by Egyptian National Railways back in 2021.

In total 100 were ordered. Mike Hopkins, managing director of Fairwinds Landing, said these were the last batch to be shipped.
