Driver accused of hitting person arrested following police chase

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — A driver suspected of hitting a person was taken into police custody following a chase Thursday morning in Virginia Beach.

Virginia Beach police said a uniformed officer witnessed the crash involving the pedestrian at the intersection of Independence and Virginia Beach boulevards just before 2 a.m.


Police said officers chased the driver after he drove away from the scene. The driver hit a police vehicle during the chase, causing minor damage, according to police.

Officers ended the chase at Bayside High School, around two and half miles from where the auto-pedestrian crash happened. The person who was hit was not injured, police said.

Police said 20-year-old Treniya Rejinae Deas was arrested and charged with felony hit and run and two counts of eluding police.

Police said alcohol is not believed to have been a factor in the crash.
