VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — A Virginia Beach police officer is charged with felony abduction and felony object sexual penetration after an alleged on-duty incident last month.
The Virginia Beach Police Department announced on Monday that Sean A. Fearon is on administrative leave and his police powers have been suspended. He’s also charged with felony destruction of evidence.
Details are few at this time, but police say Fearon was indicted on Monday by a Chesapeake grand jury. VBPD says an investigation was launched immediately after they received a complaint of criminal conduct on June 14 involving a member of the public.
Court documents show Fearon has been in the country for about four years and has family ties to Jamaica. He’s been an officer with VBPD nearly two years.
He gave an address at an apartment building on Pavilion Drive, adjacent to the Virginia Beach Convention Center, where he was listed as living with his fiancée and daughter. WAVY spoke with three residents there Tuesday but none recognized Fearon’s picture.
“The Virginia Beach Police Department is equally as appalled as our community that one of our own faces allegations of criminal conduct arising from an on-duty interaction with a member of our public,” said Police Chief Paul Neudigate. “Such conduct is contrary to the values and standards we uphold as a department and a profession, and if true, there must be accountability. I just ask for the community’s support, as the actions of one individual is not reflective of the 800 sworn officers who protect and serve the city of Virginia Beach with honor and distinction every day.”
VBPD said there will be no further comments on the case while it remains in the judicial process. Fearon’s been with VBPD since 2022.
Fearon remains in jail and declined an interview. His defense attorney did not immediately respond to a phone call Tuesday.
