VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) – A woman was arrested on Friday after a 7-year-old was shot on Brush Creek Lane.
According to officials, on July 31 around 6:51 p.m., officers were dispatched to the 2400 block of Brush Creek Lane for reports of a shooting.
Officers arrived to the scene and found a 7-year-old male with a non life-threatening gunshot wound. An investigation revealed the victim was accidentally shot by another juvenile and that the firearm used in the incident was not properly secured by the owners.
On Aug. 9, officers arrested and charged 38-year-old Sheneka Warren-Boykins with child neglect and allowing access of firearms by children.
“Once again, I will make a plea to our community, asking them to take the necessary steps to keep their firearms out of the hands of those who should not have access,” Chief Paul Neudigate said. “When those steps are not taken and that negligence results in violence in our city, we will pursue all appropriate charges.”
Tuesday morning, a judge denied Warren-Boykins bond, citing a 2019 gun charge and saying she was a danger to the community.
Anyone with any information on this incident is urged to contact the Virginia Beach Police Department’s Detective Bureau at 757-385-4101 or the Crime Line at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP.
