Suspect identified in fatal Valentine’s Day Hampton Wingstop shooting

HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) — Hampton Police have identified a suspect in connection with the fatal WingStop shooting on Valentine’s Day.

According to officials, 25-year-old Isaiah Daqwon Harris, a former employee at the Hampton WingStop, is considered a suspect in the fatal shooting of Travell Lavar Giles.

An initial investigation revealed that the two knew each other and were involved in a verbal altercation shortly before the shooting.

Harris has active warrants on file for second degree murder, possession of a firearm in commission of a felony, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and shooting inside an occupied building.

Folks WAVY News 10 talked with say they are saddened by the fact that a suspect has not been arrested. Marie Graham says some in this next generation are out of control and not able to deal with their emotions without using a gun.

“It’s like a ticking time bomb, it’s like everybody is so emotional and no one has no self-control, no love,” Graham said. “If you do anything to the younger generation, if they get mad at you, they’re ready to retaliate.”

Teriyona Hawkins works at the Food Lion just around the corner from the Wingstop and was in the vicinity taking her sister to the movies not long before the shooting happened.

“I had just got off work, my sister was walking, I didn’t want her walking by herself and I’m glad she didn’t walk by herself,” Hawkins said. “And I’m glad we didn’t get no food cause we always go to Wingstop.”

Officers encourage anyone with any information on Harris’s whereabouts to contact the Hampton Police Department at 757-727-6111 or submit an anonymous tip using the P3Tips app.
