NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) – A man pleaded guilty on Monday to attempted malicious wounding after a failed shoe sale in 2021.

According to officials, on Jan. 25, 2021, Jerrod Wright, 26, contacted two women on Facebook regarding a pair of shoes listed for sale.

Police said after initially meeting at a 7-Eleven on Granby Street, one of the women approached Wright’s car, attempting to make the sale. After multiple failed transaction attempts through a payment app on his phone, the woman decided to cancel the sale.

Wright then followed the woman back to her car looking visibly upset, causing the two women to drive off, according to police.

While the women were driving away, Wright pulled out a gun and fired one round, hitting the driver side door. No injuries were reported.

Police later executed a search warrant, where they found the gun in Wright’s car.

Wright pleaded guilty to two counts of attempted malicious wounding, with a maximum sentence of two active years in custody.

“Short tempers and guns do not mix. We are fortunate that Mr. Wright missed the victims, but that does not change the fear that they had,” Commonwealth’s Attorney Ramin Fatehi said. “Mr. Wright had no reason to shoot at these victims, and had he controlled his temper, he would not have been charged with felonies or face prison time. We will continue to hold accountable those people who shoot at our citizens.”

Wright’s sentencing is scheduled for Aug. 30.
