RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — A preschool student brought a loaded firearm in his backpack to Maymont Preschool on Monday, after which a member of the student’s family was charged with allowing access to firearms by children.

Officers with the Richmond Police Department were called to Maymont Preschool, located at 1211 South Allen Avenue, at 2:12 p.m. on Monday, May 7, for the report of a gun at school.

When officers arrived, a staff member reported that a male preschool student had a loaded gun in his backpack, which was recovered by staff members, and was then seized by Richmond Police.

A family member of the student, 34-year-old Valentino Christian of Chesterfield County, was charged with allowing access to firearms by children, according to police.
