NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) —Police have identified the man who was shot and killed on Roanoke Avenue in Newport News late Wednesday evening.

Ryan Pipkin, 18, of Newport News, was found outside a residence in the 3300 block of Roanoke Avenue suffering from a gunshot wound, police said, and he was pronounced dead at the scene. Police have classified the shooting as a homicide.

Newport News Police responded to a report of shots fired in the 3300 block of Roanoke Avenue, between 33rd Street and 34th Street, around 11:46 p.m.

Police have not released any other information about the shooting, and the investigation is ongoing.

A community member said he heard one gunshot.
