NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) – The Norfolk Police Department responded to a barricade situation on Pleasant Avenue Tuesday morning.

According to officials, officers were dispatched to the 3600 block of Pleasant Avenue around 9 a.m. for reports of a disturbance.

Officers arrived to the scene and determined the suspect was experiencing a mental health crisis. After a brief period of negotiations from the Hostage/Crisis Negotiation Team and Special Operations Team, the man was taken into custody without issue.

Norfolk Police posted to X, formerly known at Twitter, urging people to avoid the area while they investigated the incident.

Police said the man was transferred to a local hospital to receive medical treatment. No injuries were reported.
