NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — A 19-year-old man is dead and two other men were injured in a triple shooting Thursday afternoon in Norfolk, not far from another shooting a day earlier, police said.
The call came in around 4:45 p.m. Police were in the 900 block of Bagnall Road when they heard gunshots nearby and found a 23-year-old man suffering from a non life-threatening gunshot wound in the 800 block of Bagnall Road.
Norfolk Police Chief Mark Talbot said the officers who were on patrol nearby heard about 10 gunshots on East Olney Road. A man was pronounced dead on the scene. He was identified as 19-year-old Javid K. Williams. A 29-year-old man was rushed to the hospital with serious injuries and a 23-year-old man was treated for minor injuries.
“This is one of the neighborhoods where we are struggling with many of the residents who live here to make it safer,” Talbot said. “We believe there was some sort of dispute, but we’re not sure.”
Talbot, in a press conference at the scene, said it is unclear whether Thursday’s triple shooting is related to the shooting in that area the day before. The shooting Wednesday took place as a Juneteenth event was going on one street away.
“This is another tragic incident that we’re hoping to continue to reduce,” Talbot said. “We’ll be out here for an extended period of time both proactively patrolling and furthering this investigation.”
There were a number of evidence markers in the grass, and parts of East Olney Road were cordoned off with yellow police tape.
