NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) – A Newport News man has been sentenced to ten years and one day in prison in connection with a shooting during a marijuana robbery.

Documents reveal that Beal, instead of purchasing the marijuana from D.M., reached into D.M.’s vehicle and took a backpack containing approximately 6.5 ounces of marijuana.

Beal then fled from the scene, firing three gunshots towards D.M. with a Glock 23 .40 caliber semiautomatic handgun. Two of the gunshots went through D.M.’s windshield, while the other struck D.M. in the leg, seriously injuring him, according to police.

D.M. was treated for his injuries after reporting the incident to Newport News police.

Newport News police were able to determine that Beal was the shooter through security camera footage from the apartment complex and from forensically matching the firearm seized from Beal’s residence.
