NCSHP makes arrest after fatal hit-and-run involving pedestrian on NC-32

CHOWAN COUNTY, N.C. (WAVY) – An arrest has been made following an investigation into a fatal hit-and-run involving a pedestrian near Greenhall Road in Chowan County Monday night.

According to officials, troopers were dispatched to NC-32 near Greenhall Road around 9:40 p.m. for reports of an auto-pedestrian incident.


An investigation revealed that 25-year-old Nykia Boston and her mother were walking along NC-32 when an unknown vehicle struck Nykia, then fled the scene. Nykia died as a result of the crash, troopers said.

Investigators began searching for a vehicle with damage to the driver’s side headlight and windshield in connection with the incident.

Wednesday night, the North Carolina State Highway Patrol confirmed the driver was located and arrested. 26-year-old Corion Leary of Tyner, North Carolina was charged with felony hit-and-run and misdemeanor death by vehicle.
