GLOUCESTER, Va. (WAVY) — A man who was recently fired from a Gloucester Wendy’s came back in a Halloween mask, and with a gun, authorities say.
The Gloucester County Sheriff’s Office says the suspect, 35-year-old Jamie Tate, was later arrested after a seven-hour standoff at his apartment.
It all started back on Tuesday, July 9, when Tate entered an unsecured rear door at the George Washington Highway Wendy’s near the courthouse wearing a Halloween mask. He ended up not encountering anyone inside the business and left out the same door, authorities say.
When an employee went outside to see who it was, Tate was outside unmasked and brandishing a gun. He made several threatening statements and wouldn’t let the employee back inside, but the employee was able to call for help over his headset, the sheriff’s office said.
Tate left before Gloucester deputies arrived and was tracked back to apartment in the 15000 block of George Washington Memorial Highway. After a seven-hour standoff, Tate was removed with no injuries reported by the Gloucester County Sheriff’s Office Tactical Unit.
Deputies also were able to recovered evidence in connection to the alleged crimes.
Tate has been charged with possession of transportation of firearm or ammunition by convicted felon, assault and battery, abduction or kidnapping, prohibiting of wearing a mask and brandishing a firearm.
