HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) – A man was arrested in connection with a double homicide that occurred on May 15, 2023.
Police said on May 15, 2023, officers were dispatched to the 400 block of Allegheny Road around 1:02 a.m. for reports of a shooting.
Officers arrived to the scene and found 42-year-old Benita J. Mozelle and 26-year-old Troy L. James in the roadway. Mozelle and James were pronounced dead at the scene.
Hampton Police, with assistance from the US Marshals Service, arrested 35-year-old Phillip Lee Morris in connection with the double homicide.
Morris has been charged with two counts of second-degree murder, two counts of malicious wounding, robbery causing death, four counts of use of a firearm in commission of a felony and discharge of a firearm within 1000 feet of a school.
