JAMES CITY COUNTY, Va. (WAVY) – James City County police have arrested an employee of a vape shop in connection with an illegal drug distribution investigation.

According to officials, an extensive months-long investigation resulted in the arrest of 26-year-old Basheer Hassan on Jan. 31 after several pounds of marijuana and highly potent THC cannabinoid products were seized from King J. Tobacco and Vape shop, located at 4511 John Tyler Highway.

The James City County Police Criminal Investigations and Patrol Units worked in collaboration with the Tri-Rivers Drug Task Force to execute the search. Hassan, who was the only employee in the store at the time of the search, was subsequently arrested.

Police say that the Task Force was initiated after several complaints that alleged the ongoing illegal sale of marijuana, including claims of sales to juveniles in recent weeks. King J. Tobacco and Vape does not have a license to sell marijuana or related products.

Hassan was transferred to the Virginia Peninsula Regional Jail, where he was denied bond and charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute.

Police say this is an ongoing investigation, and that anyone with any information on this incident or other related incidents to submit tips at P3Tips.com.
