ECPD addresses recent series of shots fired incidents

ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. (WAVY) – The Elizabeth City Police Department and supporting agencies held a news conference Monday to discuss several recent shooting incidents.

This past weekend, Chief of Police J. Philip Webster said the city experienced a number of shots fired incidents. Although many involved gunfire damage to occupied homes, he said there are no reported injuries.


Several weapons were recovered during the investigations, which were on display during the news conference.

Chief Webster detailed a timeline of the events and a summary of the incidents, outlined below.

“I want to thank our team, the men and women of the Elizabeth City Police Department. These men and women go out every day with the goal of keeping our community safe,” said Chief Webster.

On Tuesday, the police department released its total calls for service for February 2024. ECPD responded to 5,689 calls, averaging almost 100 calls a day.

He also thanked the community for calling and providing information as the eyes and ears on the streets.
