CHOWAN COUNTY, N.C. (WAVY) — A man taken into custody on a charge of concealing a dead body in Beaufort County now faces a murder charge in Chowan.

The Chowan County Sheriff’s Office announced Thursday a warrant for murder has been taken out for 29-year-old Jordan Isaiah Thomas, of Edenton. The sheriff’s office says the victim is believed to be a 19-year-old girl, but they’re still awaiting positive identification.

Thomas is in custody after he was arrested in Beaufort and charged with concealing the death of a person and larceny of a motor vehicle. That arrest prompted a death investigation that led to the murder charge, Chowan authorities say.

The sheriff’s office hasn’t said where, when or how the victim was killed, but said the investigation remains ongoing.
